Sweet Addition Game

This sweet gumball themed addition game is now available for sale in our TPT store. Your students can play this game in pairs, small groups or individually with minimal modifications. Just add dice and simple counters. Students throw 2 dice and find the total.

To make it more difficult for your higher-level students, give them dice that feature numerals not dots. The dots will support lower-level students if they need to touch-count.

For more information on how to play you can pop back to this post.
Counting on game

A fast-prep class game for addition - Gumball Count On
You need

  • students sitting in a circle on the mat
  • 1 set of number cards
  • 1 jumbo dice

How to play

  • one child is chosen to be Captain Count On and stands behind one student (let's call him Gumball) in the circle, looking over his/her shoulders
  • Gumball holds the deck of cards with the first number clearly on display so both he and Captain Count On know the number
  • the giant dice is rolled by Gumball
  • Captain Count On and Gumball race to say the total first - they must add the dots from the dice onto the number on the flashcard
  • If Captain first says the total, he moves one place around the circle to the left, behind a new Gumball and the cards and dice are passed on - a new challenge ensues
  • If Gumball says the total first, he becomes the new Captain and they swap positions before game continues to the left
